Nigeria climbed to the 40 th position in the world in the latest FIFA rankings released by the football body on Thursday .<br />
The three-time African champions garnered 726 points to move up one place in the rankings from 41 , which they occupied in March.<br />
The Eagles have continued to retain their stay in the African top 10 for the fifth consecutive month . They have also broken into the top five on the continent as they are now fifth on the continent after their 1-1 draw with Senegal in a friendly match in London .<br />
Egypt are the best team in Africa after they moved up a place from 20 th in March to 19th . Senegal are second in Africa with 805 points . However, the Teranga Lions are 30th in the world .<br />
Cameroon are the third-best team on the continent . The African champions , who the Super Eagles play in a World Cup qualifiers in August , dropped a place from 32 in March to 33 .<br />
Burkina Faso are fourth on the continent . They moved up a place from 36 in March to 35. The Democratic Republic of Congo ( 41 ) are sixth while Tunisia ( 42 ) dropped five places to be placed seventh and Ghana ( 45 ) are eighth after dropping two places in the latest rankings .<br />
Ivory Coast ( 48 ), who dropped a spot , and Morocco ( 53), who dropped four places , complete the African top 10 .<br />
Brazil , who booked their place in the Russia 2018 World Cup with matches to spare, returned to the summit of the rankings after seven years. The Samba Boys moved from second in March with 1661 points .<br />
Argentina, who were previously on top, are now second while Germany and Chile retained their third and fourth places . Colombia , France , Belgium , Portugal, Switzerland and Spain complete the top 10 in the world .

Seven persons, including three children , lost their lives on Thursday during a boat accident in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State.<br />
A community source told our correspondent that the boat capsized after facing a strong wind in the middle of the sea in Bonny .<br />
The boat was moving from Bonny to Port Harcourt when the unfortunate incident occurred at about 4 pm.<br />
The PUNCH learnt that though the number of those on board the ill-fated boat had not been ascertained, some other children on board were said to be missing as of the time of filing this report .<br />
It was learnt that a priest , whose name was not immediately given, survived the accident .<br />
The source, who spoke with The PUNCH on the telephone, explained that the priest , who was considered dead , woke up as the bodies of all the deceased were being taken to a mortuary .<br />
“It was a local boat and we learnt that seven lives were lost . Unfortunately there are even some children they have not found . There was a very terrible wind and a heavy rain this morning .<br />
“Maybe the wind caught the boat in the middle of the sea. They said a priest that was supposedly dead; by the time they moved to Port Harcourt , at the mortuary , he ( priest ) came back. We have not verified that anyway , but we are all praying that such news ( revival of the priest ) should be true .<br />
“The priest we are talking about is a very close person to me. He lives in the same house with my pastor. Government must ensure that boat drivers are well trained and certified before being allowed to convey anybody ,” the source from Bonny told our correspondent.<br />
Spokesman for the police in the state , Mr . Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident, but added that he had yet to get details of what happened , including the number of those who lost their lives .<br />
“I can confirm to you that there was a boat mishap, but the detail is still sketchy . I will get back to you as soon as I am fully briefed on it ,” Omoni said .<br />

North Korea has warned it will retaliate if the global community ramps up sanctions over its latest round of weapons tests.<br />
The warning comes as President Donald Trump threatened the United States was prepared to go it alone in bringing Pyongyang to heel if China did not step in.<br />
The isolated state has quickened its missile programme in recent months, with a volley of tests it says are putting it closer to acquiring the ability to hit the US mainland with a nuclear weapon.<br />

North Korea's foreign ministry on Monday assailed Washington for its tough talk and for an ongoing joint military exercise with South Korea and Japan which Pyongyang sees as a dress rehearsal for invasion.<br />
The 'reckless actions' are driving the tense situation on the Korean peninsula 'to the brink of a war', a ministry spokesman was quoted as saying by the official KCNA news agency.<br />
The idea that the US could deprive Pyongyang of its 'nuclear deterrent' through sanctions is 'the wildest dream'.<br />
'Now that the US fails to face up to the trend of times but incites confrontation to strangle the DPRK (North Korea), the DPRK is left with no option but to take necessary counteraction against it.<br />
'The world will soon witness what eventful steps the DPRK will take to frustrate the hideous and reckless sanctions racket', he said without elaborating.<br />
North Korea frequently makes unspecific threats in its state media.<br />
The statement comes ahead of a first face-to-face meeting between Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping this week at the US president's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.<br />
The comment by the North's foreign ministry spokesman came hours before the US House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed a bill relisting the North as a state sponsor of terror, along with a resolution denouncing the North's nuclear and missile development.<br />
The US Treasury hit 11 North Korean business representatives and an industrial firm with sanctions last week, seeking to further isolate the country's economy.<br />
Professor Yang Moo-Jin of the University of North Korean Studies said the North is likely to hold off any provocative acts until after the Trump-Xi meeting.<br />
'It is most likely to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the birth of its army on April 25 with either a sixth nuclear test, or the launch of a satellite or an ICBM test', Yang said.<br />

A member of the National Youth Service Corps , Becky Godfrey, and three other travellers were abducted on Monday by some gunmen.</div>

The victims were reportedly on a bus travelling to Bayelsa State when the kidnappers lay in ambush for them on Okene- Auchi Road .</div>

It was learnt that Becky , who is serving in the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was travelling back to her place of primary assignment to sign a clearance form for her monthly allowance when the incident happened .</div>

PUNCH Metro gathered that one of the assailants , who was in a police uniform , had flagged down the bus . As the driver stopped , other members of the gang came out of a bush and seized the corps member.</div>

They were said to have picked three other passengers , while other occupants , including the driver, were freed before the gunmen disappeared into the bush with their victims .</div>

It was gathered that the driver reported the incident at the Okene Police Division.</div>

A few hours after the abduction , the assailants contacted Becky ’ s father, Braima Godfrey , on the phone , and demanded N5m in ransom.</div>

Braima, who spoke with our correspondent on the telephone, said efforts to negotiate with the kidnappers were futile , adding that the police eventually rescued Becky and other victims around 12 pm on Tuesday .</div>

He said , “They said I should bring N5 m. I bargained with them on Monday , but they did not agree. I called them more than 20 times, but they insisted on N5m . I called them again this morning ( Tuesday ), they were adamant .</div>

“My daughter told me on the phone that some of her abductors wore masks and that three other passengers were kidnapped . She graduated last year from Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, where she studied Marketing . She will finish her service in May.</div>

“When I got to the Okene Police Division on Tuesday , I was told that the Area Commander and some officers had gone to the scene of the incident.</div>

“Around 12 pm, my daughter and the three others were rescued and one of the suspects was arrested.”</div>

Thirty-year -old Becky , who spoke to our correspondent on the phone shortly after she was rescued , described her experience in the kidnappers’ den as traumatic.</div>

She said was awoke all night without being given food , adding that the abductors offered them dirty water when they complained of thirst.</div>

She said , “As we were travelling, an armed man in a police uniform stopped our bus . We were 11 on that bus . Our driver thought he was a policeman and stopped for him. He suddenly fired his gun and some men came out of the bush .</div>

“They collected our money and phones and took four of us with them into the bush . Some of them were Fulani. They beat me up and forced me to disclose my father ’s phone number.</div>

“My experience in the bush was terrible . They didn’t give us any food . Later , they gave us dirty water to quench our thirst. The water was smelly . None of us drank it. I was the only female; the three other victims were males .”</div>

The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer , William Aya, said two persons were arrested and had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.</div>

He said , “The Area Commander led a team to the bush and rescued the four victims . One of them is a corps member . We were able to arrest two suspects and efforts are ongoing to arrest fleeing members of the gang. ”</div>
